Moreover, the District operates and maintains over 500 water <br /> control structures, 50 pump stations, and 1,969 miles of canals and levees. One component of the District's strategic plan under the Operation <br /> and Maintenance Program is the Structure Inspection Program (SIP). SIP results will help to identify structure deficiencies and generate <br /> recommendations for corrective actions to improve structure operation. The overall Structure Inspection Program (SIP) objective was to <br /> systematically inspect water control structures owned or operated by the District. These inspections were performed to ensure operational <br /> integrity and to avoid partial or total failure that could endanger the lives and safety of the public. <br />d.
