Project ~Ianager for a team of engineers,
architects, parking specialists and environmental
scientists in the study, planning, engineering, and
preparation of conceptual designs for impro\'ements to
an existing commuter rail station, including traffic,
parking and station accessibility improvements,
expanded provisions for regional bus service, schematic
design of three different options for a new multi-level
parking stmcture containing 400 to 700 parking spaces
with pedestrian bridge connecting to the existing train
station. An em'ironmental site assessment was
performed for the proposed parking structure site which
was formerly used as an automobile wrecking facility.
Land survey was performed to facilitate design and be
used for land acquisition purposes. Schematic Design
Report summarized study results and recommended a
preferred option.

MBTA - Park Street/Haymarket Stations, Light
Rail Accessibility Program, Boston, MA. Project
t\hnager for a Joint - V en ture team to renO\'a te and
improve key stations at historic Park Street and
Haymarket Green Line Stations to comply with the
:\mericans with Disabilities "\ct. Park Street,
constructed in 1897, is located under Boston Common
(on the National Register of Historic Places), and the
Station is designated as an historic landmark. The
project invoh'ed platform modifications including
relocation of existing columns to prO\'ide accessible
paths of travel, raising of the platforms to accommodate
new low-floor light-rail \'ehicles, adjusting all station
finishes, fixtures and appurtenances affected by the
platform raising, and improving audioh'isual signage
and communications to comply with ADA
requirements. As the busiest station in the ~fBTA
system, staging of constmction to minimize impact on
revenue service while keeping the stations opens to
public use during constmction was critical for the
design.

Massport, MBT A, MassHighway - Anderson
Regional Transportation Center, Woburn MA.
Project ~Ianager for a multi-discipline team of engineers,
architects, and parking operation specialists in the
planning, engineering, design and constmction
administration of a new intermodal transportation center

serving three stakeholder agencies (~[assport, ~lBTA
and ~IHD). Located on a former Superfund site in
\Voburn, it was the first public facility in t\-Iassachusetts
to be constmcted on a Brownfield (contaminated site
that had been remediated). The project included
relocation of mainline tracks, construction of t\vo ne\v
raiV signal interlocking; a new bypass track and freight
spur; new commuter rail station with high-level center
island platform, two pedestrian bridges over the tracks
to parking areas; a new t\vo-story 9,000 sCluare foot (sf)
intermodal station building; Logan Express, regional and
local bus loading platforms; \'anpooV carpool and park-
and-ride loading platforms; surface parking for 2,500
cars separated by daily, short- and long-term
requirements, and ach'anced parking and revenue control
systems to accommodate different parking fee policies
of the three agencies. Design focused on prm'iding a
user-friendly facility, projecting a positive and inviting
image at the former Superfund site, and developing
construction staging to minimize impact on existing rail
sef\'ice during constmction. Existing commuter rail and
bus stations were decommissioned as part of the project.
Total construction cost including railroad impro\'ements
\vas S I 5.6 million.

Texas Utilities Electric Company, Dallas, TX - Rail
Spur to Big Brown Station. Project prm'ided a new
rail spur from Big Brown SES to an interconnection
with the Burlington Northern and Southern Pacific
Railroads to allO\v deliven" of western states coal to the
power station. Tracks ran 26 miles across rolling terrain,
crossing surface water courses, wetlands, undisturbed
uplands, and reclaimed strip mining lands, with
numerous roachvay crossings of various classifications.
~[ajor stmctures included trestles, bridges and
underpasses where grade separation was required for
safety, operations, or environmental purposes. Studies
were performed for on-site or remote-site coal unloading
and handling. ~Iultiple constmction contracts were
phased over a three-year period.

SHAW ENVIRONMENTAL, INC.

2

WILLIAM J.
