Expert Witness and Independent Peer Review <br /> <br />We have designed industrial buildings ranging from <br />simple pump houses to complex multilevel power <br />generation facilities meeting building code criteria at <br />local, state and federal levels. Combined loading <br />conditions due to dead and live loads, wind, snow, <br />hurricane, and seismic are analyzed and the structure is <br />designed to withstand the most severe loading <br />combination. The same applies to administrative <br />buildings except that there is usually a higher <br />occupancy level and more architectural involvement. <br />Since the main activity in administrative buildings <br />involves people, computers, and other office related <br />equipment and functions that are performed, these <br />buildings have a lighter live load and result in a less <br />robust structure. Additional emphasis on architectural <br />amenities includes more windows, more comfortable <br />finishes, and climate control considerations including <br />heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. <br /> <br />As an example of our work, Shaw staff provided <br />technical assistance to the Miami River Commission <br />and Miami-Dade County regarding dredging issues <br />related to the USACE maintenance dredging and <br />disposal of contaminated sediments from this densely <br />developed river. Dredging consulting services also <br />provided to the Miami River Commission consisted of <br />the review and guidance on Project Cooperation <br />Agreements, the review of project plans and <br />specifications, and the preparation of infonnational <br />mailings and notifications to Miami River property <br />owners. Shaw staff developed dredging description/fact <br />sheets for public distribution and notification letters for <br />riverfront property owners; provided responses to <br />questions from the public regarding potential impact of <br />project to property/structures along the river; and <br />supplied continual dredging technical resources to the <br />commission and county. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />SHAW ENVIRONMENTAL. Williams Fork <br /> <br /> <br />;;00- ~ <br /> <br />.....- -'.....~ <br /> <br />~ ~~~0'.:~ <br />,:-. - ., <br /> <br />, - <br /> <br />-~ <br /> <br />-~~.:... <br /> <br />;'.:Jo <br /> <br />Shaw was the design member of an integrated design-build <br />team for the Mud Lake dam and reservoir which is located in <br />Nevada and completed in 2000. <br /> <br />One example of our site planning and site civil <br />engineering design is the Hanscom Family Housing, a <br />US Air Force project in Lincoln, MA, where Shaw <br />completed the civil and utility designs for demolition of <br />850 housing units and construction of 784 housing units <br />and 5 neighborhood centers.
