Kroll, R.L.A.
Director of Landscape Architecture, Planning,
Environmental Services, & Geographic
Information Systems
Page 2
Relevant Project Experience:
Continued
C -18 Canal Restoration - Design of a five -acre inter-
tidal habitat in Jupiter, Palm Beach County. The project
included tidal marsh creations, mangrove restoration and
transitional plantings. This project serves as an integral
element for the South Florida Water Management
District's restoration program established for the C -18
Canal.
Heron Bay Mitigation Bank- Design and development
of a 15 -acre fresh water marsh and hardwood mitigation
bank in west Broward County. This private mitigation
bank serves to offset wetland impacts generated by WCI
Communities future residential and commercial
developments.
• Weston Town Center - This 30 -acre mixed -use project
included retail, office, residential and future governmental
services. Other key elements for Weston Town Center
include a lakefront linear park with band shell and an
interactive fountain. The design process for this project
included the preparation of Master Design Guidelines for
the entire project and all the varied uses. In addition,
this pedestrian oriented "soul" of the City of Weston
included a highly pedestrian- oriented central retail area
with themed landscaping and paving design.
The Ridges — This 530 -acre single family residential
community in Broward County was designed around the
centerpiece of a large recreational area and linear park
system. The key elements designed as part of this
community included an 11 -acre parkwith open play areas,
swimming facility, picnicking areas and an interactive
playground. The linear park was divided into both passive
and active uses that culminated at the 11 -acre recreational
facility. In addition, large archeological areas were present
within the developed area. These archeological sites were
turned into interpretive passive recreation areas in order
to enhance the sense of identity for the communities
and offer insight into the historical significance of these
areas. Community theming including signage, play
equipment and materials were also within the scope of
work for this project.
City of Miramar Parkway Streetscape Designs -
Numerous streets within the City became critical to the
enhancement of residential and commercial
communities. This streetscape improvement project
included a 1.5 mile section of the Miramar Parkway
corridor adjacent to US 441. Some of the proposed
streetscape improvements included enhancement of the
pedestrian corridor to encourage additional and safe
pedestrian traffic for commercial uses. In addition, the
use of consolidated parking areas rather than on- street
parking were implemented in highly commercial/
industrial areas so as to improve the aesthetics of the
street as well as improve both pedestrian and vehicular
circulation.
City of Miramar Parks Projects - As a result of rapid
growth and expansion, numerous City -owned properties
became outdated and no longer could support the
increased population of the City. We were responsible
for the development of conceptual plans for the reuse of
these facilities. These proposed improvements ranged
in diversity from active parks including ball fields and
playgrounds, to athletic indoor facilities and senior, after
school and early development centers.
• Sandy Ridge Sanctuary - A 38 -acre environmentally
sensitive land (ESL) park site in Coral Springs. The
project consists of the design for bicycle and walking
trails, and interpretive signage, picnic and play areas,
as well as native habitat restoration plantings. A
management plan was prepared for the Florida
Communities Trust (FCT) that provided approximately
$2 million of grant support for this project.
Lowry Park Spring Restoration - Restoration of an
existing spring area at Lowry Park by removing a
deteriorating man -made pond and font and creating a
new outfall and pond area reflecting a more natural setting
for the spring. The outfall features natural limestone and
the ponding area was planted in native wetland vegetation
designed to restore a rare component of the Florida
ecosystem.
Weston Athletic Park - A 102 -acre sports park in
Weston that includes fields for baseball, softball, soccer,
basketball and roller hockey. This project required
planning of active recreation areas, playgrounds, building
facilities, parking, as well as pedestrian and vehicular
circulation.
Florida Department of Transportation District VI -
Planning, landscape design, and construction
coordination for seven FDOT roadways covering 24 miles
in Dade County. Services provided included: conceptual
and final designs for right -of -way and median landscaping,
including analysis of site specifics such as vehicular
encroachment, existing vegetation and proposed
