The Contractor shall so conduct his operations that he shall not close any thoroughfare <br />nor interferes in any way with traffic on railway, highways, or on water, without the <br />written consent of the proper authorities. <br />16. Traffic Control in Work Zones: <br />CONTRACTOR shall furnish, erect, and maintain all necessary barricades, warning, <br />danger, and detour signs, suitable and adequate lights; provide watchmen where <br />necessary to direct traffic; and take all other precautions to protect the work and the <br />public. Streets, which are closed to traffic by authority of the City Manager, shall be <br />adequately barricaded and marked with warning and detour signs, and lights at all <br />intersections and crossings along the detours. Street closings and detour shall be <br />implemented only as called for in the SPECIAL PROVISIONS or as shown on the Plans. <br />The temporary detour shall be adequately marked throughout its length. All detour <br />signing and routes shall be inspected and approved in writing by the Public Works <br />Director prior to being put into use. It shall be the responsibility of CONTRACTOR to <br />arrange such inspections. <br />Detour routes shall be maintained in a safe and passable condition at all times as the <br />detour is not longer necessary, the streets constituting the detour route shall be restored to <br />a condition of ENGINEER. All required restoration in incidental to the Maintenance of <br />Traffic pay item. <br />Obstructions and barricades shall be lighted at night and such lights shall be kept burning <br />from sunset to sunrise. <br />All such signing shall be done in accordance with applicable OSHA regulations, Florida <br />Department of Transportation, Roadway and Traffic Design Standards (booklet dated <br />January 2000), and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), most <br />current edition at date of bid. <br />CONTRACTOR'S failure to properly maintain a safe Maintenance of Traffic program <br />will result in all WORK being halted until such time as any unsafe conditions, as <br />determined by the OWNER, have been corrected and made safe. No time extensions will <br />be given for STOP WORK orders due to unsafe conditions. <br />17. Royalties on Patents <br />All fees or royalties for any patented articles or operations of construction used in this <br />structure or any part thereof of any materials, tools implements, machinery, fixtures or <br />anything used by the Contractor, shall be included in the price stipulated in the Contract <br />for the work, and the Contractor shall protect and hold harmless the City against all <br />demands for such fees, royalties and claims. <br />General Specifications Page 9 of 16 <br />
