1 PART 2 - PRODUCTS <br />' 2.01 SOIL MATERIALS <br />A. Satisfactory Soil Materials: ASTM D2487 soil classification groups <br />GW, GP, GM, SM, SW and SP. <br />B. Unsatisfactory Soil Materials: ASTM D2487 soil classification groups <br />GC, SC, ML, MH, CL, CH, OL, OH and PT. <br />' C. Subbase Material: Naturally or artificially graded mixture of natural or <br />crushed gravel, crushed stone, crushed slag, natural or crushed sand. <br />07/03 02200 -2 03- 4138.A <br />D. <br />Drainage Fill: Washed, evenly graded mixture of crushed stone, or <br />1 <br />crushed or uncrushed gravel, with 100 percent passing a 1-1/2 in. <br />sieve and not more than 5 percent passing a No. 4 sieve. <br />E. <br />Backfill and Fill Materials: Satisfactory soil materials free of clay, rock <br />or gravel larger than 2 in. in any dimension, debris, waste, frozen <br />1 <br />materials, vegetable and other deleterious matter. <br />PART 3 - <br />EXECUTION <br />3.01 EXCAVATION <br />A. <br />Excavation is Unclassified, and includes excavation to subgrade <br />elevations indicated, regardless of character of materials and <br />1 <br />obstructions encountered. <br />B. <br />Unauthorized Excavation: Removal of materials beyond indicated <br />subgrade elevations or dimensions without specific direction. <br />Unauthorized excavation, as well as remedial work directed by <br />Engineer, shall be at Contractor's expense. <br />C. <br />Additional Excavation: <br />1. When unsuitable bearing materials are encountered at required <br />subgrade elevations, carry excavations deeper and replace <br />excavated material as directed by Engineer. <br />2. Removal of unsuitable material and its replacement as directed <br />will be paid on basis of contract conditions relative to changes <br />in work. <br />07/03 02200 -2 03- 4138.A <br />
