1 <br />1 <br />i� <br />1 <br />U <br />1 <br />L <br />1 .10 TREE SPADING /HAND DIGGING <br />A. Plant materials indicated to be relocated may be relocated by means of <br />a tree spade. The specific requirements for root ball size shall be in <br />accordance with root ball size charges, Section 1.08. <br />B. Burlapping will be required if trees, large shrubs, or palms will be <br />relocated to an area not accessible by the tree spade equipment or if a <br />tree spade is not used. Trees or palms that are dug by tree spade and <br />then burlapped for relocation shall comply and be handled in same <br />manner as new plant materials specified in Section 02490. <br />PART 2 - PRODUCTS <br />PART 3 - EXECUTION <br />"NOT APPLICABLE" <br />3.01 HANDLING AND TRANSPORTATION <br />A. Trees, palms, and large shrubs shall be properly handled during moving <br />so trunks will not be scarred or damaged and to avoid broken limbs. <br />Broken limbs or scarred /damaged trunks shall cause plant to be <br />unacceptable and rejected at Landscape Architect's option. Broken <br />limbs and wounds which do not (in the Landscape Architect's <br />judgment) cause the tree to be rejected shall be repaired under the <br />following guidelines: <br />1. Properly prune dead, dying, or damaged branches with clean, <br />sharp equipment. <br />2. Remove injured bark and wood of a tree wound with a clean, <br />sharp knife to a point where healthy bark and wood make <br />contact at their margins. <br />3. Inspect and treat wounds for insect and disease. <br />4. Seal wounds with bituminous base wound paint only at <br />Landscape Architect's direction. <br />B. Transport plant material on vehicles of adequate size to prevent <br />overcrowding, broken limbs, foliage damage or root ball damage. <br />C. Root ball should be kept moist during all phases of relocation. <br />D. Root ball sizes for small and medium shrubs shall be 1/3 larger than <br />nursery grown stock of the same size and species. Ensure root ball is <br />solid and remains intact. <br />E. Tree and palm crowns shall be protected with shade cloth to prevent <br />desiccation and wind burn. Crowns shall be periodically sprayed with <br />water to help ensure against desiccation. <br />F. Groundcovers designated as divisions will consist of healthy offshoots <br />with adequate root mass to ensure successful transplant. <br />1 07/03 02481 -6 03- 4138.A <br />
