1 <br />fl <br />u <br />Ir I <br />J <br />excavation of existing soil to a minimum of <br />12 inches <br />(Note: 6 inches for all annual beds) below <br />finished soil elevation, backfilling with a <br />minimum 3 inches of planting soil mix, and <br />then tilling with all required amendments to a <br />depth of not less than 12 inches. <br />(Note: 6 inches for all annual beds. All <br />areas to be amended in such a manner shall <br />be highlighted on contractor's record <br />drawings. <br />(3) Bring all beds and pits to smooth,even <br />surface conforming to established grades <br />after full settlement has occurred. <br />NOTE: Amending of and quantities of <br />planting soil mixes as outlined above <br />contingent with existing soil conditions. <br />B. Planting Beds: <br />1 . Planting beds to a depth of 12 inch topsoil mixture. <br />2. Bring beds to smooth, even surface conforming to established <br />grades after full settlement has occurred. <br />3. Use acceptable excess excavated topsoil to form watering <br />berms around the plants. <br />C. Test fill all tree pits with water before planting to assure proper <br />drainage percolation is available. Pits which are not adequately <br />draining shall be excavated to a depth sufficient for drainage and <br />backfilling with gravel or crushed rock. No allowances will be made <br />for lost plants due to improper drainage. Landscape Contractor shall <br />replace with same species size and specification at no cost to Owner. <br />3.04 PLANTING <br />A. General <br />1. Center plant in pit or trench. <br />2. Face for best effect, or as directed by Landscape Architect. <br />3. Set plant plumb and hold rigidly in position until soil has been <br />tamped firmly around planting ball. <br />4. Use only planting soil backfill as specified hereinbefore. <br />5. Place sufficient planting soil under plant to bring top of planting <br />ball to finish grade. <br />6. Backfill pit or trench with planting soil in 9 in. layers and water <br />each layer thoroughly to settle soil and work soil completely <br />around roots and planting ball. <br />7. After soil settles fill pit with planting soil, water, and leave pit <br />surface even with finish grade. <br />8. Topsoil Berm: <br />a. Construct a topsoil berm 6 in. above finish grade forming <br />a watering basin with a level bottom around each palm or <br />tree. <br />07/03 02490 -8 03- 4138.A <br />
