TRAINING PROCEDURES <br />• .Read and discuss with employees <br />Burns <br />FIRST AID TREATMENTS <br />• If there are no blisters, run cool water on the skin to prevent the heat from <br />penetrating deeper. <br />• If there are open blisters, loosely cover the damaged skin with a dry bandage. <br />• Do not use ice or other cold agents to cool burns. <br />• Never put butter, oil, or petroleum jelly on a burn. <br />Minor cuts - To Stop the Bleeding: <br />• Apply pressue to the wound with a sterile gauze pad or clean cloth. (Do not use <br />cotton.) <br />• To stop the flow of blood, raise injured area above the heart, if there are no <br />fractures. <br />• If bleeding continues, get additional medical help. <br />Heat Exhaustion - failing to replenish fluids lost in perspiration. Symptoms - pale, cool, moist <br />skin; nausea; dizziness. First Aid; • <br />• Lie down in shade or cool place. <br />• Drink cool fluids (1/2 glass every 15 minutes). <br />• Get help. Call supervisor and medical. <br />Heat Stroke - failure of the body to cool itself. Symptoms - no sweating (in some cases victim <br />may sweat profusely);high temperature (105 degress Fahrenheit); hot, dry, flushed skin, <br />confused, delirious behavior. First Aid. <br />• Move the victim to a cool place. <br />• Soak clothing in cool water. <br />• Fan the body. <br />• Get help. <br />• Do not put water in the victim's mouth. <br />Eye Injury: <br />• Flush eyes for 15 minutes if chemicals enter eyes. <br />• Do not rub. <br />• If object is floating, hold eyelid up, look down, and flush with water. <br />• If object is imbedded, cup hand over object, close or cover both eyes. <br />• Transport to medical facility. <br />• <br />32 <br />
