Bruises: <br />• Apply a cold pack such as an ice bag for 10 -15 minutes several times during the <br />first day or two. <br />• If severe or painful swelling develops, see a doctor. <br />• Call supervisor who will direct you for treatment. <br />Abrasions: <br />• Clean out dirt or other foreign matter. <br />• Wash with mild soap solution. <br />• Apply sterile, non -stick gauze pad or clean cloth. <br />• Once the bleeding stops, wash area with soap and water. <br />• Apply antibiotic skin ointment. <br />• Change ointment twice daily. <br />Snake, Spider, Ant, Scorpian Bites - bites of any of these creatures can be serious. <br />• Make the victim lie down quietly to prevent the spread of poison. <br />• Keep the person calm and still. <br />• Remove all rings and bracelets from the affected extremity. <br />• Wash the area. <br />• Place ice or freeze pack, if available, over the area of the bite. <br />• If the bite(s) is on the face, neck, or genital area contact supervisor immediately. <br />• Get help. Call supervisor and medical. <br />Stings (Wasp/Bee) - insect stings can be painful. Some persons are allergic to such stings and may <br />react to the point of losing consciousness. Normally, however, there is no cause for alarm. <br />• If the stinger is present, remove by scraping with fingernail or knife. Do not <br />squeeze venom sac or stinger. <br />• Wash the area. <br />• Apply a thick paste of baking soda, if available. <br />• Keep the person quiet. <br />• Contact supervisor immediately. <br />33 <br />
