PART 2- PRODUCTS <br />2.01 MATERIALS <br />A. Materials shall conform to these Specifications and any state or local specification <br />requirements. <br />B. Cement for all cast in place concrete shall be a domestic portland cement (ASTM C -150, <br />Type II) or high early strength portland cement (Type III) free from injurious water soluble <br />salts or alkalies. High early strength cement may only be used, with written approval of the <br />Engineer. Air entraining cements may be used with written approval of the Engineer. <br />Cement brands shall be subject to approval. <br />C. Aggregates: <br />1. Fine aggregate shall consist of washing inert sand conforming to the requirements <br />of ASTM Specification C -33, and the following detailed requirements: <br />Sieve %% Pa-,sing <br />No. 4 95 -100% <br />16 60 -75 <br />50 13 -30 <br />100 3 -8 <br />Fineness Modulus 2.4 -2.6 <br />Organics Organic Plate 2, per ASTM <br />C -40 <br />Silt 2.0% maximum <br />Mortar Strength 95% minimum as per ASTM <br />C87, Section 10 <br />Soundness 8% maximum loss, using <br />magnesium sulfate, <br />subjected to 5 cycles <br />2. Coarse aggregate shall consist of well - graded crushed rock or washing gravel <br />conforming to the requirements of ASTM Specification C -33 and the following <br />detailed requirements: <br />Organics Organic Plate 1, per ASTM <br />C -40 <br />Silt 1.0% maximum <br />Soundness 8% maximum loss, using <br />magnesium sulfate, <br />subjected to 5 cycles <br />3. The following designated sizes* of aggregate shall be the maximum employed in <br />concrete: <br />2 inch for plain concrete <br />I inch for reinforced sections 10 inch and over in thickness <br />3/4 inch for reinforced sections less than 10 inch in thickness <br />4. *Note: The 'Designated Size" and the corresponding gradations shown represent <br />the end or combined gradation of the coarse aggregate to be used in the final <br />concrete. <br />1 12/04 03300 -5 034138 <br />
