<br />l <br /> <br />WHEREAS, there is a critical need for adequate transit service to provide for the mobility <br />needs of residents of Miami; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, an integrated system of transit services is needed for existing and future travel <br />markets including long-distance travel by the South Florida Rail Corridor/Tri-Rail Commuter Rail <br />System, moderate-distance travel served by transit in the eastern FEC Railway Corridor, and local <br />travel in the urban centers by local circulator services; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the reintroduction of passenger service along Florida's east coast would <br />stimulate the economy, increase access to job opportunities, and assist the transit-dependent <br />population between Miami and cities throughout the Southeast Florida Region. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br />SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. Support for the Florida Department of Transportation's South Florida East <br />Coast Corridor Study for transit Services between Miami and Jupiter. The City Commission hereby <br />supports the Florida Department of Transportation's South Florida East Coast Corridor Study for <br />transit Service between Miami and Jupiter to enhance mobility in the Southeast Florida Region. <br /> <br />Section 2. Endorsement of Regional Rail Operating in the FEC Railway Corridor. The <br />City Commission endorses the Regional Rail operating in the FEC Railway corridor as the Locally <br />Preferred Alternative for future South Florida East Coast Corridor transit, and agrees with eh <br />proposed transit station location, as identified through a collaborative, public process in Phase 2 of <br />the Study, particularly as they pertain to this jurisdiction, as appropriate. <br /> <br />Section 3. Support of Land Use Policies. The City Commission working with the <br />Florida Department of Transportation, and other appropriate agencies, agrees to support <br />complementary land use policies, land development regulations, "quite zones" and economic <br />development activities consistent with the Federal Transits Administration New Starts Development <br />Process. <br /> <br />Section 4. Encouraging the Florida Department of Transportation. The City <br />Commission further encourages the Florida Department of Transportation, on behalf of all state <br />stakeholders, to actively pursue obtaining shared access to the current FEC Railway corridor with <br />the purpose of reintroducing passenger transit services within the FEC Railway Corridor. <br /> <br />Section 5. Directive to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is directed to forward a copy of <br />this Resolution to all appropriate public agencies including the Miami-Dade Metropolitan Planning <br />Organization, the Miami-Dade County commission, the Miami-Dade county Officials involved in <br />regional transit planning, the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority and its membership, <br />the Florida League of Cities, the Florida Association of Counties, local govemments, the Chambers <br />of Commerce within the South Florida area, CSX Transportation, the Flagler Development Group, <br />the FEC, LLC, and the aviation and sea port agency officials. <br /> <br />Section 6. <br /> <br />Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption. <br /> <br />2 <br />
