' A. General: <br />1. Begin maintenance immediately after each item is planted and continue until <br />final inspection and acceptance. <br />2. Maintain a health growing condition by pruning, watering, cultivating, weeding, <br />mowing, mulching, tightening, and repairing of guys, resetting plants to proper <br />grades or upright position, restoration of plant saucer, and furnishing and <br />applying such sprays as necessary to keep planting free of insects and diseases. <br />' 3. The root system of plants shall be watered at such intervals as will keep the <br />surrounding soil in best condition for promotion of root growth and plant life. <br />' 4. Keep planting saucers and beds free of weeds, grass and other undesired <br />vegetation growth. <br />I 5. Protect planting areas and plants against trespassing and damage of any kind for <br />the duration of the maintenance period. <br />1 06/05 02490 -12 03- 4138.B <br />B. <br />Stake palm trees as shown. Contractor shall have the option to deepen the burial of <br />Sabal Palmetto and Washingtonia Robusta for stabilization in lieu of staking. (Note: <br />The clear trunk height shall be required as specified on plans after installation. The <br />Contractor shall still be responsible for and guarantee the installation against toppling <br />' <br />and be responsible for any and all damage incurred to toppling over.) <br />3.09 PRUNING <br />A. <br />Prune minimum necessary to remove injured twigs and branches, deadwood, and <br />suckers. Pruning shall be done with regard to natural form of plant material or as <br />' <br />directed by the landscape Architect. <br />1. Do not prune prior to delivery to site. <br />' <br />Note: Pruning is required for collected palms and trees per "Grades and Standards for <br />Nursery Plants Part II, Palms and Trees" and Section 02481. <br />' <br />B. <br />All cuts one inch diameter or larger made during pruning of any plant material shall be <br />painted with commercial grade sealant as approved and directed by Landscape Architect. <br />C. <br />Pruning cuts shall be monitored to ensure proper healing and to prevent insect /disease <br />infestation. <br />D. <br />Landscape Contractor shall perform all specialized shearing and or pruning as directed <br />' <br />by the Landscape Architect and as shown on the drawings at no additional cost to the <br />Owner. <br />3.10 MAINTENANCE <br />' A.
