M
Fort Worth, TX
Description
Working with the public and private partnership of the
City of Fort Worth and Bass Brothers Enterprises, Carter &
Burgess, Inc. provided planning, landscape architecture
and civil engineering services for the redevelopment of
Fort Worth's historic Main Street.
The street, which has been reconstructed to achieve
the effect of its original red brick surface, visually links the
downtown area from the historic courthouse at the north
end of downtown to the Tarrant County Convention
Center at the south end. The focal point of the southern
end of the street is a large inset granite star designed
by Carter & Burgess - a
feature that echoes the
patriotic Texas image of
the courthouse to the
north.
This project involved traffic
analysis, streetscape
design and amenities
improvements and was
awarded a Consulting
Engineer's Council Award
of Excellence.
As consultants to Bass
Brothers Enterprises,
Carter & Burgess, Inc.,
also provided services
for the rehabilitation of a
two -block area on Main
Street. The project, known
as Sundance Square,
involved restoring 11
buildings to their original
turn -of- the - century
character. The Square,
formerly the home of
pawnshops and discount
jewelers, has become a
viable income - producing
Services
Master Planning
Streetscape Design
Landscape
Architecture
