5. The Contractor shall furnish all materials, permits and equipment <br />and perform all work required to install and maintain the drainage <br />systems he proposes for handling groundwater and surface water <br />encountered during construction of structures and compacted fills. <br />6. If requested by the Engineer, the Contractor's proposed method of <br />dewatering shall include a groundwater observation well at each <br />structure to be used to determine the water level during <br />construction of the structure. Locations of the observation wells <br />shall be at structures as approved by the Engineer prior to their <br />installation. The observation wells shall be extended to 6 inches <br />above finished grade, capped with screw -on caps protected by 24" <br />x 24" wide concrete base, and left in place at the completion of this <br />Project. <br />7. Prior to excavation, the Contractor shall submit his proposed <br />method of dewatering and maintaining dry conditions to the <br />Engineer for approval. However, such approval shall not relieve <br />the Contractor of the responsibility for the satisfactory performance <br />of the system. The contractor shall be responsible for correcting <br />any disturbance or natural bearing soils or damage to structures <br />caused by an inadequate dewatering system or by interruption of <br />the continuous operation of the system as specified. <br />8. As part of his request for approval of a dewatering system, the <br />Contractor may be requested to demonstrate the adequacy of the <br />proposed system and wellpoint filter sand by means of a test <br />installation. Discharge water shall be clear, with no visible soil <br />particles in a one quart sample. <br />9. During backfilling and construction, water levels shall be measured <br />in observation wells located as directed by the Engineer. <br />10. Continuous pumping will be required as long as water levels are <br />required to be below natural levels. <br />1.06 SUBMITTALS <br />A. The Contractor shall furnish the Engineer, for approval, a representative <br />sample of fill material obtained from on -site sources at least ten calendar <br />' days prior to the date of anticipated use of such material. <br />B. For each material obtained from other than on -site sources, the <br />' Contractor shall notify the Engineer of the source of the material and shall <br />furnish the Engineer, for approval, a representative sample at least ten <br />calendar days prior to the date of anticipated use of such material. <br />r <br />1 07/06 02220 -4 05 -5564 <br />
