1. Structural fill shall be used below spread footing foundations, <br />slab -on grade floors, and other structures and as backfill within <br />three feet of the below grade portion of structures. <br />2. Crusher -run gravel shall be used under and around drainage <br />sumps. It can be used at the request of the Contractor and if <br />approved by the Engineer as base material for areas approved by <br />the Engineer. <br />3. Limerock base course shall be used under roadways, parking <br />areas, walks and for riprap. Limerock base course may be used by <br />the Contractor at other similar locations if approved by the <br />Engineer or indicated on the Drawings. <br />4. Common fill shall be used at all other locations. <br />5. Bedding rock shall be used for pipe bedding, under and around <br />manhole base and at other locations indicated on the Drawings or <br />approved by the Engineer. <br />B. Backfill excavations as promptly as work permits, but not until completion <br />of the following: <br />1 1. Acceptance by Engineer of construction below finish grade <br />including, where applicable, dampproofing, waterproofing, and <br />perimeter insulation. <br />2. Inspection, testing, approval, and recording locations of <br />underground utilities. <br />' 3. Removal of concrete formwork. <br />4. Removal of shoring and bracing, and backfilling of voids with <br />satisfactory materials. <br />5. Removal of trash and debris. <br />6. Permanent or temporary horizontal bracing is in place on <br />horizontally supported walls. Layout and location of bracing shall <br />consider loads of the structure as well as the effects of the soil and <br />groundwater. <br />C. Ground Surface Preparation: Remove vegetation, debris, unsatisfactory <br />' soil materials, obstructions, and deleterious materials from ground surface <br />prior to placement of fills. Plow strip, or break -up sloped surfaces steeper <br />than 1 vertical to 4 horizontal so that fill material will bond with existing <br />' surface. <br />1 07/06 02220 -10 05 -5564 <br />
