' furnish the Engineer, for approval, a representative sample at least ten <br />calendar days prior to the date of anticipated use of such material. <br />PART 3 - EXECUTION <br />3.01 GENERAL <br />A. All excavation, backfill and grading necessary to complete the work shall <br />be made by the Contractor and the cost thereof shall be included in the <br />Contract price. <br />I B. Material shall be furnished as required from off site sources and hauled to <br />site. <br />C. The Contractor shall take all necessary precautions to maintain the work <br />area in a safe and workable condition. <br />D. The Contractor shall protect his work at all times by flagging, marking, <br />lighting and barricading. It shall also be the Contractor's responsibility to <br />preserve and protect all above and underground structures, pipelines, <br />' conduits, cables, drains, or utilities which are existing at the time he <br />encounters them. Failure of the Drawings to show the existence of these <br />obstructions shall not relieve the Contractor from this responsibility. The <br />cost of repair of damage which occurs to these obstructions during or as a <br />result of construction shall be borne by the Contractor without additional <br />cost to the Owners. <br />3.02 INSPECTION <br />' A. Examine the areas and conditions under which excavating, filling, and <br />grading are to be performed. Do not proceed with the work until <br />unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. <br />B. Examine and accept existing grade of athletic field, Swale, walks, <br />pavements and steps prior to commencement of work and report to <br />Engineer if elevations of existing subgrade substantially vary from <br />elevations shown on the Drawings. <br />3.03 TRENCH EXCAVATION <br />' A. Excavation for all trenches required for the installation of pipes shall be <br />made to the depths indicated on the Drawings. Excavate trench to <br />provide minimum of 30 -inch clear cover over the pipe bell unless <br />otherwise noted on the Drawings. Excavate in such manner and to such <br />widths as will give suitable room for laying the pipe within the trenches, for <br />bracing and supporting and for pumping and drainage facilities.
