There may be a better way and we’d like to help the City in that pursuit. Collier County MPO Public outreach is one area that requires constant innovation in approach. We expanded the outreach efforts on behalf of the Collier MPO while working on their Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Study. Using multilingual media and communication, we expanded on the old model of outreach by adding on-street intercepts of bicyclists and pedestrians, and on-bus signage with QR codes to link bus riders to online safety surveys. Formerly, hard copies of surveys and website links to surveys were only accessible to those who looked for them… our efforts reached the bicycle and pedestrian community that rarely had a voice by extending our services beyond traditional outreach methods. Fort Myers Downtown Development We have also applied an innovative strategy on behalf of the City of Fort Myers to bolster Downtown development and redevelopment linked to a funding mechanism to support City priorities. Our team has devised a strategy to quantify the “untapped” available utility capacity in the City’s existing and planned infrastructure system to capitalize on this resource to stimulate private development. Surplus utility capacity has been translated into equivalent dwelling units that may be allocated by the City to developers who are seeking the opportunity to build more intensely in exchange for a proportionate payment to a new Community Fund that helps the City accomplish needed public improvements. The program helps the development community who needs more flexibility and relief from regulatory barriers, and it helps the City maximize its resources and achieve goals to sustain the community through redevelopment.
