A 1A. This is a twin fixed high level structure
2,664 feet long, with a vertical clearance of 65 feet above mean high water at the Intracoatal Waterway. The
navigation and flanking spans (3 spans continuous: 161'-230'-161') have been developed using Segmental Bulb-Tees,
with special haunched sections at the supports. The segmental portion of the project consists of curved precast segmental concrete box
girders with a maximum curvature radius of 114 m. Single box cells carry one and two lanes of traffic with
superelevations as high as ten percent. The spans vary from 35 to 72 m and the typical segment is 3 m long. The
longest ramp bridge is 1005 m in length. Mr. Perez was responsible for the solution to construction-related
issues during the design and construction of the project and he was also responsible for designing all of the
expansion joints.
