Horizontal and vertical alignments will be refined to emphasize comfortable span arrangement, constant structure depth,
substructure-pier outside of the canal, bottom of the superstructure above the splash zone (12 feet above Mean High Water) due to
the proximity of the Intracoastal Waterway and the environment classification probably being extremely aggressive. Navigation and
maintenance barges operating under the structure will also be considered. Refinements/adjustments to the alignment or span
arrangements will also consider cost effectiveness.

4. Providing substructure elements that can be constructed with minimal impact to the existing properties (i.e. use of drilled shafts for
pier footing and spread footings for the temporary south pedestrian/bike/emergency vehicle approach ramp in order to minimize
vibration and settlement/cracks of the existing surrounding buildings and parking).

5. Designs and plans will be reviewed by our experienced construction engineers and former contractor for constructability, phasing,
and cost effectiveness, as well as:

D Method of Erection due to the proximity of the existing properties.
D Crane location
D Transportation of girders
D Access to the site during construction
D Constructability of future vehicular access on the south approach of the bridge.
D Staging requirements

This is a pedestrian/bike/emergency vehicular bridge that must blend with the existing environment and hence aesthetics is a primary
consideration. The tight superstructure curved horizontal alignment requires steel/concrete curved superstructure members; these
members will follow the curves of the outside pedestrian face barrier creating a harmonious visual impact. Single or multi-columns will
receive architectural treatments such as rustications. Proprietary retaining walls (MSE) walls will be used on the north approach of the
bridge. The temporary south pedestrian/bike/emergency vehicular approach ramp connecting to the bridge with special PVC railing and
with ADA provisions will also be constructed utilizing special concrete patterns and finishes to enhance the overall aesthetics of the
project (See Inset). If box superstructure type is used, utilities, conduits, etc. can be installed inside the boxes, except water and sewer
main due to possible pipe rupture. By concealing the utilities they do not negatively impact the aesthetics; also the bridge lighting
conduits will be installed inside the box or pedestrian railing barrier. During the initial phase of the pedestrian usage, a possible
practical aesthetic enhancement could be a canopy similar to the Williams Island vehicular/pedestrian bridge designed by BHA (See
insets). The Marlin Team will design unique elements such as canopy/covered walkway and attractive custom railing with integrated
lighting that will be aesthetically pleasing.

~.
~"

~I'l
,

...\1

\ \ ~
t\
!
