Edelcup.

"First and foremost is the safety of the residents and the more than one million visitors
that visit Sunny Isles Beach each year," says Mayor Edelcup. "If there was any cause for
concern we would notify the public."

This is in response to a Miami Herald article quoting a 2009 Natural Resources Defense
Council report that the beaches were polluted due to high bacteria levels.

According to Samir Elmir, Environmental Administrator with the Miami-Dade County
Health Department, "Since 2002 the Miami-Dade County Health Department has tested
the waters off Sunny Isles Beach on a weekly basis as part of the statewide Florida
Healthy Beaches and Public Notification Program. If there is an abnormal result the
water is retested again. If there is a second abnormal result then the City will advise the
public of the section of affected beach area to assure the safety of the residents and
beach visitors. The beach water samples from the City of Sunny Isles Beach/Pier Park
tested satisfactorily this week. In addition our records indicate that there have been no
beach advisories issued this year for Sunny Isles Beach."
-MORE-
