"Our beach water quality data since 2002 including water
quality and beach sanitary surveys indicate that Miami-Dade County beaches
including Sunny Isles Beach are generally clean beaches and can safely be visited and
enjoyed year round."

To view the Health~s Departments report on Sunny Isles Beach/Pier Park visit:

http://esetapPsdoh.doh.state. fl.us/irmOObeachwa ter /beac hresults.a spx ?cou n tv =Dade

In 20' 0 the City of Sunny Isles beaches have not been closed due to bacteria. The
beaches were closed one day as a safety precaution when Tropical Storm Bonnie hit
Sunny Isles Beach on Friday, July 23rd. In 2009 the beaches were under advisory in total
5 days out of 365 days and the area affected was a small area not the entire two and
one half mile expanse of beach. The cases for beach closure revolved around bacteria
from possible storm water run off and wildlife including the vast population of pelicans
that perch on the Sunny Isles Beach Pier. "All these cases are considered non-point
sources of fecal pollution. None of the Miam~Dade County beaches including Sunny
Isles Beach are impacted by any point source of fecal pollution. Once the water
samples were retested and no bacteria were found, the beach advisories were
rescinded." stated Samir Elmir.

As part of the City's ongoing efforts to keep our beaches clean and attractive for
residents and visitors. the City of Sunny Isles Beach and Barefoot Wine will partner in a
Beach Rescue Project this Saturday, July 3111. The event will be held from 9:00 to 11:00
am at Sam'son Oceanfront Park, 17425 Collins Avenue. The City of Sunny Isles Beach has
hosted beach clean ups for the past several months. Past clean ups have included
students from Florida International University and the Florida Marlins Community
Foundation including team mascot Billy the Marlin.

For more information about the City of Sunny Isles Beach visit the city website at
www.sibfl.net or call 305.792.1759.

###
