6

way radios and a laptop computer for writing press releases and updating
C the city website from outside the city in case of evacuation.

· Prepare checklists for visitors
Visitors to Sunny Isles Beach may not be familiar with some of the usual
crises that occur in Florida. It would be helpful to provide them with
preparation checklists. A hurricane preparedness checklist and an
evacuation plan are two such items that could assist visitors during a
crisis.

· Communicate this plan in advance
This plan should be communicated to the media and to the Sunny Isles
Beach community (businesses, residents, and tourists) before a crisis
strikes. If the media and the city's residents and visitors know it exists, and
how/where to refer to it, they will know what to expect from the city when a
crisis occurs. This will allow the crisis communication process to move
more smoothly.

· Consider Long-Term Plans for Displaced Residents
If the crisis leaves residents displaced (fire, flood, hurricane, etc.), the city
will need a long-term plan for housing them. Will they go to a hotel? Can
they be sheltered somewhere in the city?

w

· Consider Non-residentsNisitors
Some visitors who' do not have cars, and those who are from other states
and countries, may.not be able to evacuate the city in an emergency. The
city must provide shelter for these individuals or offer them guidance on
where to go and how to get there. Can the non-residents/visitors be .
sheltered in the city? Can they stay in their hotels? Flown home?

.

Identify City or Miami-Dade County Shelters
Depending upon the nature of the crisis, some city buildings could be
designated as shelters. For example, a good shelter during certain crises
should contain restrooms, showers and recreational facilities. If there is a
mandatory evacuation of Sunny Isles Beach, then Miami-Dade County
shelters will be used.

.

Contact Offices of Telecommunications and Facility Services, At
Least Annually
Stay in touch with these offices to ensure that city officials know of all
possible backup methods of communication and the locations of all
generators in case the power goes out. HRMC should be informed of what
potential back-up services currently exist for Sunny Isles Beach
Telecommunications.

o

1175 NE 125lh STREET, SUITE 618.
