He spent the first thirteen years of his career working for the Florida Department of Transportation District VI internal design office on the production of roadway plans including minor design and major reconstruction projects. During the last two years of his career at FDOT, he worked as District VI Roadway Design Project Manager where he was head on an Internal Design Team working on a large number of milling and resurfacing and reconstruction projects. Mr. Gil-Mera is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, The Florida Engineering Society and the Cuban-American Association of Civil Engineers where he currently holds the Vice-President Position.
