Summary Minutes: Regular City Commission Meeting

April 21, 2011

City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida

Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida is requesting this, and the husband and wife that run it are
residents of Sunny Isles Beach, as well as several of their students. They are hosting the
International Young Dancers Festival and are bringing in 130 dancers with their directors and
they are looking for a donation of the rooms. The students/dancers find host families but the
directors/teachers do not and are looking for a donation of approximately $4,000.00. They
will receive a rate at the Marco Polo for $69 a night, for 8 nights, 7 rooms for a total of
$3,864.00. They are also seeing if they can get the performance room at the Ramada to do a
performance free for the City on behalf of the donation.

Public Speakers: none

Mayor Edelcup asked when they would do a performance for the City, and Ms. Simpson said
they are here May 8-16, and have performances in A ventura, North Miami Beach, and
Broward County on May 13, 14, and 15, and so it can be any day other than those days.
Mayor Edelcup said they are currently going to perform at the A ventura Arts and Cultural
Center, the Theater in North Miami Beach, and in the Broward Center. Ms. Simpson said
yes, and that they are willing to give us 200 free tickets to the North Miami Beach
performance that we could give to residents. Mayor Edelcup asked what the City's benefit
would be, and Ms. Simpson said we would be considered a sponsor. They have 288 media
publications that cover this international event, and have dancers from several different
countries including Japan, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Mexico, Peru, Venezuela, and all
the countries will be covering the event. Our City logo will be on all their publications.
They are holding up printing t-shirts, banners, programs, etc. until they hear back from us.

Mayor Ede1cup said that he doesn't see any benefit for the City by us providing hotel rooms
for performances that are taking place in three other cities, and the last minute get-together of
putting something on probably would be ill-planned and very difficult to execute. If it is
something that happens annually, we should be talking about it for next year with a
performance in our City, and pass on it for this year, and Vice Mayor Thaler agreed. Ms.
Simpson said they have also offered to do a performance with their school, not with the
international group, for anytime in September through May. They performed for us before
and we paid them $1,000, and as to next year, each year it is a different country host.

After discussion, it was the consensus of the Commission to pass on it for this year.

13.
