c

c

c

City of Sunny Isles Beach: Special Inspection Services
RFO No. 11-07-11

URS staff are highly experienced in performing and/or reviewing
the ancillary CAPWAP analysis of PDA data generated by the
PDA testing equipment. This PDA testing and CAPWAP analysis
and/or review work of same would be performed under the
direction of Mr. Micheal Sharp, PE as the technical Special
Inspector for such piling installation. Mr. Sharp is extensively
experienced in such work and presently provides such PDA
testing services on FDOT Districtwide PDA testing contracts based
out of the URS Tampa, FL office.

In addition to the PDA testing, it will be necessary to monitor the pile driving operations and to record the pile
driving resistance or blow counts per foot of driving during installation. URS staff have FDOT Pile Driving
Certifications necessary to provide these services.

Vibration and Settlement Monitorinq Services - During pile driving activities, it is common for URS to
provide Vibration Monitoring and Settlement monitoring surveys during piling installation activities primarily
when drive pilings are being installed. URS owns and operates four ( 4) vibration monitors as well as survey
level and rod equipment needed to provide such monitoring services.

Vibration monitoring criteria normally requires that vibrations imparted to adjacent structures not exceed a
vibration level greater than 0.5 inches/sec. Experience indicates that this vibration level is capable of being
felt by adjacent landowners and occupants thereof and may be sufficient to cause minor hairline cracking of
older more lightly reinforced structures - particularly where block construction was used in the building.
Depending on the location of the pile driving, distance to the adjacent structures and nature/age of the nearby
adjacent structures, lower vibration monitoring criteria may be appropriate to be specified to avoid or
minimized minor damage to adjacent buildings as well as to minimize complaint calls to the City.

Geotechnical Drillinq and Samplinq/Laboratorv Testinq Services - As previously indicated, URS has
been providing geotechnical design services to numerous high rise projects in the Sunny Isles Beach area for
over 15 years. During this period, URS has utilized the geotechnical drilling sampling and laboratory testing
services of Vertical V Southeast Inc. (i.e. formerly Bureau Veritas - North America Inc. - formerly Intercounty -
USL Laboratories Inc.) on the majority of high rise projects in the area.

Correspondingly, URS will continue to utilize Vertical V
Southeast Inc. drilling equipment and laboratory testing
services based out of their North Miami Beach Facility near
Interstate 95 and the Golden Gate Interchange.
Additionally Vertical V will provide field inspectors staff for
sampling and testing of construction materials on an as.
needed call out basis

......".,
. ~a"

2-23 I P :0 E Co

URS
