Cohen, City Manager <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />1/19/2012 <br /> <br />RE: <br /> <br />Local Mitigation Strategy eLMS) <br /> <br />RECOMMENDA TION: <br /> <br />It is recommended that the City Commission adopts the Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS) <br />as per the resolution attached hereto. <br /> <br />The City of Sunny Isles Beach has been participating in Miami Dade County's Local <br />Mitigation Strategy Program and by adopting it through this resolution, the City will <br />obtain credit for the Community Rating System (CRS) recertification and <br />reclassification. <br /> <br />REASONS: <br /> <br />A Local Mitigation Strategy eLMS) is a government plan designed to reduce or eliminate <br />risks to people and property from natural and man-made hazards. Mitigation strategies <br />are supported by state government and federal programs. <br /> <br />The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funded a national initiative to <br />help communities develop local mitigation strategies that identify projects to mitigate the <br />effects of natural disasters and to identify sources of funds to address those problems. <br /> <br />The City of Sunny Isles Beach Local Mitigation Strategy establishes Miami Dade <br />County's overall mitigation policy.
