Preview

Page 2 of2

The National Flood Insurance Program's (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS) is a
voluntary incentive program that recognizes and encourages community floodplain
management activities that exceed the minimum NFIP requirements.

On October 1, 2007, The City of Sunny Isles Beach was able to join the National Flood
Insurance Program's (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS) by undertaking a series of
meaningful activities to protect the citizens of Sunny Isles Beach from losses caused by
flooding. Based on the program's criteria, our city was able to obtain a classification of 8
which allows our residents to enjoy a 10% discount in their Flood Insurance Policy.

Every year, the City undergoes a recertification process where it is demonstrated that the
City continues to pursue those meaningful activities to protect the citizens from losses
caused by flooding.

This year, the City is attempting a lower reclassification to be able to offer our Sunny
Isles Beach citizens a greater discount in their Flood Insurance Policies. Among others,
some of the new activities staff is pursuing to obtain more credit points are the adoption
of the Miami Dade County's LMS, Surveying Benchmark Maintenance, GIS Mapping,
recordkeeping of Elevation Certificates, etc.

A TT ACHMENTS:

.

Resolution

.

Miami Dade County Local Mitigation Strategy

http://sibagenda.sibfl.net/agenda/Preview.aspx?ItemID=685&MeetingID=0&MeetingDate. .. 1/10/2012
