Port of Miami Tunnel, Miami-Dade County, FOOT 6 (2008-2011). Ongoing Utility Coordination (with
local agencies such as Miami-Dade Water & Sewer Department; Florida Power & Light; Comcast and
AT&T Florida; in addition to State and Federal Agencies) for the relocation of existing utilities (and
railroad tracks) located within the Department's right-of-way. This Design-Build project consists of
three primary components: widening of Macarthur Causeway Bridge; combined portal tunnel
connection between Watson Island and Dodge Island; and connections to the Port of Miami roadway
system, Due to the complex nature of the project, all existing utilities in Dodge Island have been
designed to be relocated to a "utility corridor", eliminating possible conflicts with proposed tunnel
and roadway design. This tunnel will be the largest precast concrete segment lining tunnel in the U.S.
and is claimed to be the most difficult tunnel for tunnel construction in the world at this time.
