Summary Minutes: Regular City Commission Meeting January 19,2012

City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida

Mr. Steiger asked if the Commission can visit Israel soon, and Mayor Edelcup said we will
arrange to do something but he doesn't want to commit for this year because they may be tied
up for other Sister City events or require us to travel. Let's try to plan it for 2013, and that
would give you plenty of time to get a group together. The last time we did this, there was a
group of 10-12 people that went, perhaps we should open this to any other residents of the
City that want to buy into going, and we can go over as a bigger group. As a courtesy open it
to residents of the City that may want to go if we can come up with an attractive rate.

13B. Guillermo Ramirez discussed Senior Exercise Equipment be placed in the Parks. He
feels it is important to recognize retirees, and he has not seen anything in the Parks to attend
to the physical well being ofthe senior citizens. He recently visited Brazil and in their parks
they have equipment for seniors to exercise. He said this is true in other major cities in the
world such as in Canada and England, and Sunny Isles Beach being a progressive City he
would like to see that in our Parks. Mayor Edelcup said that was an excellent suggestion and
told him to talk to Cultural and Human Services Director Susan Simpson who was sitting in
the audience, and she will get with our City Manager. If we can work something into our
existing Parks or future Parks that is beneficial for our senior citizens and we can find the
space to do it, and he is sure we can, he thinks it is an excellent suggestion. In the interim,
Ms. Simpson runs a number of programs that create an exercise program in Pelican
Community Park and maybe she can make you aware of some of the things that are currently
available until such time that we are able to expand it out into the other Parks.

14. ADJOURNMENT

Mayor Edelcup adjourned the meeting at 9:12 p.m.

, . Respectfully submitted by:

Approved by the City Commission on Feb. 16,2012

~A~

Jane A. Hines, CMC, City Clerk

19
