Ede1cup
Community K-8 School in our City. Chief Charles Hurley complimented the Commission
and it is glaring apparent that you value education, quality oflife, and public safety for all of
the residents, and for that he salutes them and thanks them. He also pointed out that the City
has a very good Police Chief, he has always been a tremendous mentor to him, a guiding
voice of reason, and always there for him whenever he needed him for advice and support.
He has served with him on the Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police, and he
cannot think of a better man for this profession. He is noble, he is good, and the City is very
lucky to have him. This school is a gem and he feels very comfortable knowing that Chief
Maas and his men and women in uniform has the best interest of our school children,
everything from traffic to how we interact with juveniles to our most recent event where our
schools were targeted by copper thieves. Chief Maas is always available and he is always
willing to assist in protecting that school, and he offers his assistance beyond the City limits.

Mayor Edelcup thanked Chief Hurley for his kind words and for the special words for our
Chief, we know we have somebody very special, and he is loved by this community. The
Chief goes out of his way and spends many hours devoted to doing things for our City that is
totally remarkable and we are blessed to have him. We love working with Chief Hurley and
the school, and the school is near and dear to all of us and whatever we can do to make life
more pleasant for you and the school administration, we are there for you.

12B. Commissioner Scholl said that he and City Manager Cohen met with Calvin Giordano and
Associates today regarding an update on our Pier and we are happy to report they are
mobilizing next week on site to start the Pier construction. The way the schedule is laid out
right now the Pier will be completed before the end ofthe year. Weare going to meet again
in about two (2) weeks. Weare looking at some of the additional costs of the contract.

Mayor Edelcup said that next month he would like an update on the Bridge Project, we can
alternate the months between bridge and pier.

13. CITIZENS' FORUM: REQUESTS, PETITIONS & OTHER COMMUNICATIONS

13A. Ari Steiger said that the City has not done anything in the last couple of years with our
Sister City N etanya, Israel. Mayor Edelcup said this is our 15th Anniversary and he thinks
it would be appropriate if we invited them to attend our June 2012 Celebration. He asked
Mr. Steiger if he would like to coordinate it. The Celebration will be a two-day event, on
Saturday and Sunday, June 16-17, 2012 at the two Parks. They were here for our 10th
Anniversary and they brought the Israeli Dance Group and perhaps you can find out from
Miriam, the Mayor of Net any a, if that could be feasible. Ari Steiger asked if the City would
be willing to sponsor them, and Mayor Edelcup said we will have to come up with a budget
and suggested that he meet with City Manager Cohen and Cultural and Human Services
Director Susan Simpson and they can confer with the Commission of what they think it will
cost before we say a number. Mr. Steiger said he will talk to the Mayor of Netanya.

Mayor Edelcup said another thing we can report is that we are diligently working towards
some other Sister Cities who we are in hopes of inviting to our 15th Anniversary as well.

18
