Additional monies were provided by the Florida
Communities Trust. Thus, a major focus in redevelopment
of the site was the preservation, enhancement and
restoration of existing natural systems, such as the 2,500
feet of Indian River frontage and the interior mangrove
swamp. Glatting Jackson ecologists evaluated fl ora and
fauna on this subtropical site, for both upland and estuarine
systems, and accumulated extensive species lists for
each. Subsequently, the ecological design process focused
on the protection and enhancement of these systems.
Stormwater treatment was retrofi tted into the existing
project, and integrated into the enhancement plan for the
interior mangrove swamp. The preservation and
enhancement of upland, mangrove and seagrass systems
was accomplished while providing recreational
opportunities for the citizens of Martin County.

~~

-'~~.~
'''''''~-',-,I
i~b;: ~~ .:"\: ~

.;....,.
~
;. . i,4

~:~.~-"

AZCOM

City of Sunny Isles Beach I Design & Permitting Services of the Intracoastal Parks RFQ No. 12-04-04

25
