AECOM

Design + Planning
Parks and Public Space Planning and Design

Studio: West Palm Beach

Completed: 2011

Delray Beach, FL, USA
Client: City of Delray Beach

Old School Square Cultural Arts Center

These services were provided by AECOM
professionals during their employment with
Glatting Jackson Kercher Anglin, Inc.

The Old School Square Culture and Arts Center
is in the heart of Downtown Delray Beach. The
facility is based around the original one-
building school house built in 1913, and High
School and Gymnasium constructed in 1925,
which have been converted into community
meeting and classroom spaces, and theatre
providing a venue for theatrical, music and
other performances. A new parking garage
allows the site to be designed as an urban
plaza and park for hosting the numerous
concerts, festivals, and art shows that
currently occur on the site.

The Master Plan accommodates large groups
and small gatherings for daytime and evening
events, with fixed and moveable furniture, and
space for signature art. For events with
admission fees the park is planned for a
temporary fence to control access, while
accommodating service into and pedestrian
traffic around the facility.

The first phase of construction is complete,
with furniture and art installed in June 2010.
Future phases include an array of more
elaborate features, including: a large multi-
media display panel and shade structure in
front of the garage for movies and exhibits;
interactive art; and fountains. Adjacent
commercial properties may eventually be
redeveloped to provide front door access into
the park, making this one of the most urban
parks in the area.

Fee: $800,000

30

City of Sunny Isles Beach I Design & Permitting Services of the Intracoastal Parks RFQ No. 12-04-04

A..-coM
