In February 2007, Miami-Dade County
contracted us to review and revise the
wayfinding at county parks, trails, and
marinas. The goal of this project was
to better understand concerns users
may have with locating, accessing and
using these public facilities. Our
discovery has been focused upon
gathering com parables, project
research, and site analysis of each
facility type. The culmination of this
discovery phase of the project has led
to the creation of the project program
document. This document presents
pertinent information such as project
character, graphic image development,
architectural styles, wayfinding
concerns, terminology, multilingual
requirements, and priority
destinations. This information which
has been developed through input
from the Miami-Dade County Parks &
Recreation leadership, park staff and
the public end-users, and will serve as
the spring board that will ultimately
lead to the design of a wayfinding
system. This system will follow seven
principals established for this effort.
These principals have been developed
as a guide to ensure that all designs
work towards a common goal focused
on these guiding objectives.

Project Principals:

1. Provide access to all cultures
2. Promote brand awareness
3. Clear direction to destinations
4. Promote interpretive experiences
5. Direct to public transportation
6. Promote path/trail safety
7. Design consistency
