Mr. Hood has a Bachelor of Science in Landscape
Architecture from Purdue University. His design influence
is featured in the public realm design of places such as
Lakeland's Hollis Garden, the City of Orlando's Harry P. Leu
Botanical Gardens, Winter Park's Park Avenue, Downtown
Plant Street in Winter Garden and the University of Central
Florida's Health Sciences Campus at Lake Nona.
Mr. Hood's philosophy of design focuses on functional and
timeless design that is grounded in context and equity of
users. Jay has long focused on the creative use of native
plant material and the use of indigenous hardscape

materials. His goal with every design is to create spaces
which have meaning, tell a story, and create lasting value.

Project Experience

Miami Circle, Miami, FL
Discovered in 1998, the Miami Circle at Brickell Point is a
nationally significant archaeological site located at the
mouth of the Miami River in downtown Miami. The Miami
Circle was designated a National Historic Landmark by
the U.S. Department of the Interior. The firm was selected
by the Historical Museum of South Florida to implement
planning and design efforts at the Miami Circle. Plans
include recreational and education opportunities in an
urban park setting for local residents, tourists and those
interested in the Circle's spiritual associations. Mr. Hood
served as the Principal Designer of the Master Plan and
Phase I Implementation.

Baldwin Park - Neighborhood Parks and Open Space,
Orlando, FL
Mr. Hood served as Principal-in-Charge for the project. As
the Master Landscape Architect, the firm has provided
Baldwin Park Development Company with a full range of
design services that include conceptual design through
construction observation. Projects include the village
center and harbor on Lake Baldwin as well as a variety
of urban parks, neighborhood parks and resource based
parks, streetscape design, tree preservation and relocation,
environmental communication graphics, trail design and
lake edge restoration.

Church Street Streetscape, Orlando, FL
The Church Street Streetscape project is one of the key
first steps toward realizing the Orlando Venues Master
Plan of redevelopment. Running in front of and to the west
of the Orlando Amway Center, this streetscape project
will act as a catalyst for the eventual redevelopment of
the surrounding land uses; help establish an identity
for the burgeoning downtown retail-entertainment core
while respecting the heritage, values, and function of the
surrounding neighborhoods. For this project, AECOM was
a sub-consultant to WBQ Design and Engineering. Mr.
Hood served as AECOM Principal-in-Charge. The project
includes public involvement and concept to construction
phase services. The construction budget for this project
is estimated to $12.5 million.
