-t

is through a federal grant administered by the Florida
Department of Transportation.

A1A Scenic Byway, FL
Mr. Hood served as Principal Design Landscape Architect
for this project. "Scenic and Historic A1A" abounds with
white sandy beaches, recreational opportunities, and
history dating back before the birth of this country. The
Master Plan uses art and architecture that educates and
inspires the scenic byway traveler, while visually connecting
the resources along the byway. To provide access to the
many resources along the scenic highway, the Master
Plan identifies opportunities to enhance or complete the
pedestrian and bicycle system. Detailed cross-sections
and conceptual landscaping were included. Traffic calming
measures were recommended to improve safety or to
enhance the pedestrian and bicycle experience. Site plans
were prepared for existing and new parks located along
"Scenic and Historic A1A". A Wayfinding Master Plan was
developed to assist the traveler in finding their destination
and to provide a consistent "branding" to "Scenic and
Historic A1A".

)

City of Orlando Amway Center Streetscape, Orlando, FL
Our firm created the Orlando Venues Master Plan which
established a blueprint for the redevelopment of Downtown
Orlando. Mr. Hood
serves as the Principal-in-Charge and Senior Designer
for the project. One of the projects challenges is creating
a "dynamic passage" underneath interstate highway 1-4
connecting City-owned parking with the new center. This
is achieved through a design utilizing sound, lighting and
animated images creating an exciting corridor experience.
The streetscape project is estimated to be a $4 Million
capital improvement with completion anticipated in August
2010.

Hollis Garden, lakeland, FL
Mr. Hood was the Principal Designer for this project and was
responsible for the design and construction documents for
this detailed garden on Lake Mirror in Downtown Lakeland,
Florida. The main design
theme for the park is "discovery" of the natural wonders
found within and surrounding the City of Lakeland. Creative
play environments allow for visitors to learn about the
fascinating plants and animals found nearby by climbing
on kid-sized insects. Giant frogs, spiders, bees, inch-
worms, ants and dragon flies are designed for climbing and
are integrated with playground equipment that resemble
a spider's web, a bee hive and an inch worm's body. The
interactive water fountain is surrounded by a series of tile
mosaic murals that offer a wonderful display of native flora
and fauna. In addition to the interactive water fountain
and the bug-themed playground, Barnett Family Park also
has a labyrinth, a great open lawn, and a new community
building.
