He has developed over 60 city and county-
wide public realm plans, as well as hundreds of individual
design projects. Significant design projects include the
Astronauts Memorial at Kennedy Space Center; Cypress
Grove Park in Orlando; Martin County's Indian Riverside
Park; Delray Beach Old School Square Addition; and Orange
County's West Orange Trail. He has been a leading national
advocate for "harnessing the power of the public realm",
i.e. developing integrated, multiple-use systems of parks,
trails ,civic spaces, stormwater facilities, streets and
conservation areas to create more economically, socially
and environmentally sustainable communities. He also
regularly lectures and writes regarding how a well-planned
and designed public realm can contribute to community
sustainability.

Project Experience

Old School Square, Delray Beach, FL
Project Manager for The Old School Square Culture and
Arts Center located in the heart of Downtown Delray
Beach. The facility is based around the original one-
building school house built in 1913, and High School
and Gymnasium constructed in 1925, which have been
converted into community meeting and classroom spaces,
and theater providing a venue for theatrical, music and
other performances. A bandshell and restroom concession
building were added in 1996, and a road closed to expand
the building complex into two blocks. A recently completed
parking garage allows the site to be designed as an urban
plaza and park, to accommodate and expand upon the
numerous concerts, festivals, and art shows that are
currently occurring on the site.

Miami-Dade County Ludlam Trail Guidelines, Miami-Dade
County, FL
Principal-in-Charge for the Miami-Dade County Park and
Recreation Department to develop trail guidelines for
the Ludlam Trail corridor. Working jointly with Rails to
Trails Conservancy, heading an effort to develop a trail
guideline document which will identify trail alignment,
neighborhood and transit connections, trail materials, site
furnishings and landscaping. The trail guidelines document
will have extensive information on best practices and
lessons learned for trail design along with information on

50

City of Sunny Isles Beach I Design & Permitting Services of the Intracoastal Parks RFQ No, 12.04-04

k.""COM
