Atkins | Stone Mountain CID
Planning and Urban Design | 3-18
Atkins | City of Sunny Isles Beach, RFQ No. 12-04-020006.027944.0512
Harry Belton, RLA
Corridor Planning, Transportation Planning, Parking Studies
Harry Belton has 29 years of landscape architecture experience in the south Florida area.
During this time, he has been responsible for providing a wide range of landscape architecture
services on a variety of projects. This experience includes commercial development of retail
space, offi ces, and hotels; urban renewal projects; government facilities design; transit projects;
streetscape designs; and highway landscape, as well as the layout and design of parks and
recreational facilities, coastal and waterside parks, landfi ll conversions, and greenway and trail
systems.
Mr. Belton’s project experience includes:
Sawgrass Expressway Highway Beautifi cation, City of Coconut Creek, FL. Mr. Belton
served as senior landscape architect for this project that involved the preparation of a complete
Florida Highway Beautifi cation Grant application package for the landscaping and irrigation of
1.25 miles of the Sawgrass Expressway. The design successfully combines a buffer to residential
areas with beautifi cation of the expressway’s north terminus toll plaza using a naturalistic
planting of South Florida native plant material.
NE 4th Street Pedestrian Promenade, Miami, FL. As lead landscape architect, Mr. Belton
worked with Miami-Dade College and the City of Miami to reconfi gure a city street doubling
the amount of pedestrian space available for students at the downtown Wolfson Campus.
Also included was the addition of street trees, upgraded lighting, and street furnishings. The
improved pedestrian circulation also facilitated improved use of the Metromover station located
in the project area.
Gateway Boulevard (Seacrest Boulevard to Federal Highway), Boynton Beach, FL. Mr.
Belton served as senior landscape architect for this project that included a street widening that
was effectively used as a redevelopment project of a city-linking corridor. Also included was
the development of neighborhood identity and congruity through the use of improvements to
pedestrian systems, landscaping, and architectural features.
Boca Raton Downtown Redevelopment, Boca Raton, FL. Mr. Belton was involved in the
design of hardscape and landscape features for the right-of-way (ROW) improvements for
a downtown community redevelopment agency (CRA) district. The project included Florida
East Coast (FEC) railroad ROW easements for landscape and parking enhancements. Special
pavements and plant materials were used to further the city’s special and historically opulent
aesthetic.
City of Oakland Park Downtown Renaissance Program, Oakland Park, FL. Mr .Belton
provided landscape architectural review for this project, which included review and support
services for the redevelopment of 16 blocks of downtown streets, sidewalks, and public spaces,
as well as the landscaping of high-profi le transit corridors and over six municipal parks.
65th Infantry Veteran’s Park Master Plan, Osceola County, FL. Mr. Belton served as senior
landscape architect and provided master planning services that included: two conceptual plans,
a fi nal master plan, two public meetings, and a cost estimate. The park is envisioned to be an
“extension of your backyard” for the neighbors who live adjacent to the property, yet serve all
the residents in this densely populated area of the county. The park will take advantage of the
existing topography remaining from the golf course by having an extensive trail system that
meanders throughout the site and along the existing water bodies. Other site amenities will
include a playground, community garden, picnic areas and shade pavilions, an exercise course,
Frisbee golf course, fi shing dock, and open space.
Education
B.L.A., Landscape
Architecture, Louisiana State
University
Registrations/Licenses
Registered Landscape
Architect
Florida LA0000900, 1983
Professional Affi liations
American Society of
Landscape Architects (ASLA)
Broward Section Chair
Florida Urban Forestry Council
