Several species of palms are planted within City Limits. Being monocots, these trees have a different
anatomy and form than broadleaf evergreen or deciduous species. As a result, they require special care,
particularly in regard to pruning. Generally, only dead or 50% dead fronds (palm leaves) should be removed
below the horizontal plane, 9:00 and 3:00 o'clock and the removal of any other live fronds should be limited
to those that are broken or severely chlorotic.
6. Locations
The work will be performed within the site locations as per the bid property limits.
IRRIGATION SYSTEMS (in addition to specifications)
Florida Turf will perform an initial thorough check and verification as described below within the first 21
days of commencement:
Check and verification of electrical supply and entire irrigation controller mechanisms
1. Check and verification of the ability too maintain prime on the well side of the pump
2. Check and verification of the ability to supply and maintain appropriate pressure as designated by
the overall system design intent
3. Check and verification of the ability of the pump station to supply the required gallons per minute
(gpm) of water to each circuit zone. This quantity will be calculated by the requirements of each
zone as a function of the number of heads, gpm and pressure requirements per head.
4. Check and verification of the functionality of the sensors (heat, flow, pressure, etc) and cut off
switch.
5. Check and verification of the operation of all circuit zones with respect to electrical activation of
each circuit control valve by the irrigation controller mechanism and the water supply.
6. Check, troubleshoot and diagnose problems associated with overloads, no- flows, rapid - cycles, air
locks, no- starts, loss of prime, voluting, low pressure and high pressure.
7. Check and verification of the integrity of all irrigation zones for leaks, broken or missing heads,
piping, fixtures and valve location.
8. Check and verification for adequate 100% coverage and define areas of poor coverage. Calibrate
each circuit zone to allow for the application of % inch - 4 inch of water per irrigation cycle.
9. Make recommendations to upgrade irrigation system to current standards.
10. Provide a professional drawing of the irrigation system showing pump station location, valve circuit
locations, and head layout. (optional, additional charges apply)
11. Provide a written report of the findings with an optional cost analysis provided.
Florida Turf and Landscape will inspect, test and wet check all system and rain shut -off devices on a monthly
basis. All circuit zones of each irrigation system will be monthly tested. Minor adjustments and repairs such
as head /emitter cleaning or replacement, filter cleaning, small leaks, and minor timer adjustments will be
provided by us, including rust inhibitor refill throughout the term of the agreement where already
established. During routine maintenance, the contractor will note and report to customer or representative
any symptoms of inadequate or excessive irrigation, drainage problems, etc. The contractor will notify the
customer or customer's agent of the nature of any problems before repairs are made. We will maintain a
FLORIDA TURF AND LANDSCAPE RFP 12 -05 -01 Page 15 of 26
