CITIZENS' FORUM: REQUESTS, PETITIONS & OTHER COMMUNICATIONS
13A. Mike Kroll, Vice President of Miller Legg, said for the past nine years he has served as the
Principal in Charge of the Design Team for Pelican Community Park. He remembers several
years ago sitting and putting the information together to acquire some of those grants to
acquire the Park and do the improvements at the Park, and he noted at the beginning it was
supposed to be a very simplistic athletic park with a baseball field and a basketball court, a
playground, and a small building for restroom facilities, etc. and it evolved into the fantastic
project that it is right now which is a credit to the Commission, the City's vision, its
recognition of the citizens need for this facility. As with any great project there were always
issues to deal with and some of those issues included a hurricane, the drastic escalation of
construction material costs, a construction of a school right next to us, and this vision has
been recognized at the State level. In August of this year, the Florida Chapter of the
American Society of Landscape Architects awarded Pelican Community Park with an
Award of Merit for Excellence in Landscape Architectural Design. Mr. Kroll, on behalf
of Miller Legg, presented the award to Mayor Edelcup on behalf of the City, in recognition of
Pelican Community Park.
15
