Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting July 19,2012 City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida <br /> Authorizing the City Manager and City Attorney to Do All Things Necessary to Effectuate <br /> this Resolution; Providing for an Effective Date. <br /> Action: Commissioner Scholl moved and Commissioner Gatto seconded a motion to <br /> approve the resolution. Resolution No.2012-1937 was adopted by a voice vote of 5-0 in <br /> favor. <br /> 10H. A Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida,Authorizing <br /> the City to Participate in the "Prestige Cultural Series at Biscayne Bay Campus 2012- <br /> 2013" Program, and Authorizing a Charitable Contribution to the Biscayne Bay <br /> Campus of Florida International University (FIU), in the Amount of $5,000.00; <br /> Authorizing the City Manager to Do All Things Necessary to Effectuate this Resolution; <br /> Providing for an Effective Date. <br /> Action:City Clerk Hines read the title,and Cultural and Community Services Director Susan <br /> Simpson reported noting that this year we are contributing an additional$2,000 which will be <br /> a direct savings to our residents to encourage their participation in our events. <br /> Public Speakers: Jan Solomon <br /> Jan Solomon of FIU Biscayne Bay Campus thanked the Commission and noted that this is <br /> the 4th year working in partnership with the City and we have raised more than$45,000 in <br /> scholarships. The reason for their request for the additional $2,000 is on behalf of their <br /> students who face a 15% tuition increase for the third year in a row. In exchange for the <br /> City's support,to all Sunny Isles Beach residents they offer a 50%discount in the ticket price <br /> for the first three events:an opera matinee,a piano concert,and a musical theater review here <br /> in Sunny Isles Beach. For the final event, a three-course gourmet luncheon followed by a <br /> string quartet performance, there will be a$10 discount off the $50 price per person. <br /> Mayor Edelcup thanked Ms. Solomon and said that it is always a wonderful opportunity to <br /> work with FIU. The Prestige Series is really a terrific cultural program,and he encourages <br /> all our residents to take part and participate in these programs. He also reminded residents to <br /> get the resident ID card so that they can get the discounts that are available to them. <br /> Vice Mayor Thaler moved and Commissioner Gatto seconded a motion to approve the <br /> resolution. Resolution No. 2012-1938 was adopted by a voice vote of 5-0 in favor. <br /> 10I. A Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida,Approving <br /> an Agreement with Christopher J.Russo for the Position of City Manager of the City of <br /> Sunny Isles Beach,Attached Hereto as Exhibit"A";Authorizing the Mayor to Execute Said <br /> Agreement; Providing the City Attorney with the Authority to Do All Things Necessary to <br /> Effectuate the Terms of this Agreement; Providing for an Effective Date. <br /> Action:City Clerk Hines read the title,and Mayor Edelcup reported noting that Christopher <br /> Russo served previously as our City Manager from 2000 to 2005. <br /> Public Speakers: None <br /> Commissioner Aelion moved and Vice Mayor Thaler seconded a motion to approve the <br /> resolution.
