each layer shall be compacted by ramming or tamping with tools <br /> approved by the Engineer in a manner that does not disturb the pipe. <br /> Where necessary, granular base material of the type and thickness <br /> specified shall be used for the last layer prior to surfacing. <br /> b. In lieu of remaining or tamping in 6-inch layers, the approved <br /> granular backfill may be placed in one operation and water-jetted. <br /> The jetting operation shall be as approved by the Engineer. <br /> c. Backfill materials shall be compacted to a minimum of 98% of <br /> maximum density in accordance with AASHTO T-180. <br /> 3.06 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT <br /> A. No separate compensation shall be made for excavation, bedding, disposal of <br /> excess materials and backfill. Work shall be paid for as part of the lump sum price <br /> for each pump station. <br /> B. OSHA Trench Safety Compliance: This item shall be used to pay for use of trench <br /> box or other approved means to comply with CS/HB 3183, Florida Trench Safety <br /> Act and OSHA Trench Safety Standards, to protect works where the excavation <br /> exceeds 5 feet in depth.
