3.01 INSTALLATION <br /> A. Sub-grade shall be thoroughly compacted as specified in Division 2. <br /> B. Forms shall conform to the shapes, lines and dimensions of the members as <br /> called for on the plans and shall be substantial and sufficiently tight to prevent <br /> leakage of mortar. They shall be properly braced or tied together so as to <br /> maintain position and shape. <br /> C. Finishing: <br /> 1. Float concrete until 1/4-inch cement gel is brought to surface; steel trowel <br /> until dense surface is obtained. <br /> 2. Finish with broom at right angles to alignment of work, then round all <br /> exterior edges with 3/4-inch radius after brooming. <br /> D. Curing: <br /> 1. Cover walks with sand, sawdust or shavings and keep wet for three (3) <br /> days. <br /> 2. Cover walks until final clean-up to prevent damages. <br /> 3. Other methods of curing may be used subject to approval of the Engineer <br /> prior to implementation. <br /> E. Concrete walks shall be constructed to lines, widths, grades and thickness as <br /> shown on the Drawings, but sloped not less than 1/8-inch per foot in direction of <br /> water flow. Concrete shall be placed on thoroughly compacted subgrade, having <br /> smooth surface and kept moist until time concrete is placed. <br /> 1. Isolation joints shall be installed at all intersections with other walks, at <br /> head and bottom of steps, curbs and maximum 12-foot O.C. in runs. <br /> Expansion material shall be 1/2-inch thick, but not less than 1/4-inch, by <br /> depth of concrete; 3/4-inch thick were abutting curbs and gutters, and at <br /> parking bays. Expansion material shall extend from bottom of walk slab <br /> to within 1/2-inch of top, to be filled with poured joint filler. <br /> 2. Dummy groves shall be 1/2-inch x 1/2-inch having 1/2-inch aprons. <br /> F. Local conditions, codes and practices shall govern all drive cuts and aprons. <br /> 3.02 CLEANUP <br /> A. At the completion of the work, Contractor shall clean up all scraps, rubbish and <br /> surplus materials caused by this work and haul them away from the site and <br /> leave job in a neat, clean and orderly condition. <br /> END OF SECTION <br /> 08/12 02510-2 11-4179 <br />
