SECTION 02514 <br /> PAVERS <br /> A. General: <br /> 1. Furnish and install brick pavers and bedding material manufactured to <br /> ASTM standards. <br /> 2. Other necessary elements of this type of paving, such as edge restraints, <br /> base and subbase material are not covered in this section. <br /> 3. Submittals: For brick pavers, furnish full size samples to the engineer for <br /> approval prior to beginning placement. Provide the engineer with a <br /> certification that the brick pavers meet the requirements of this <br /> specification. In addition, for all pavers submit a certified sieve analysis <br /> for gradation comparing results of the bedding and joint sand with the <br /> requirements of ASTM C 33. <br /> B. Materials: <br /> 1. For installations on roadways and commercial driveways, provide pavers <br /> meeting the requirements of ASTM C 1272 and having a minimum <br /> thickness of 3 1/8 inch. <br /> 2. For installation on sidewalks and medians provide pavers meeting the <br /> requirements of ASTM C 902 and having a minimum thickness of 2 3/8 <br /> inch. <br /> 3. Bedding and joint sand will be clean, non-plastic bedding sand, free from <br /> deleterious or foreign matter, natural or manufactured from crushed rock. <br /> 4. Ensure the bedding and joint sand meets the grading requirements of <br /> ASTM C 33 Standard Specification for Concrete Aggregate. <br /> C. Installation: <br /> 1. Spread the bedding material evenly over the base course and screed to <br /> plan thickness, not to exceed 1 1/2 inch. Do not disturb the screeded <br /> bedding material. ensure placement of sufficient bedding material to stay <br /> ahead of the laid brick pavers. Do not use bedding material to fill <br /> depressions in the base course. <br /> 2. Lay brick pavers in the pattern(s) to match existing pattern and maintain <br /> straight pattern lines. <br /> 3. Joints between the brick pavers, on average, will be between 1/16 to 3/16 <br /> inch wide. <br /> 4. Fill the gaps at the edges with cut or edge pavers. <br /> 08/12 02514-1 11-4179 <br />
