3. The length of open trench will be controlled by the particular surrounding <br />conditions, but shall always be confined to the limits prescribed by the <br />ENGINEER. <br /> <br />4. If the excavation becomes a hazard, or if it excessively restricts traffic at any <br />point, the ENGINEER may require special construction procedures such as <br />limiting the length of open trench, prohibiting stacking excavated material in <br />the street, and requiring that the trench shall not remain open overnight. <br /> <br />B. Take precautions to prevent injury to the public due to open trenches. <br /> <br />1. Trenches, excavated material, equipment, or other obstacles which could be <br />dangerous to the public shall be well lighted at night. <br /> <br />1.05 TEST PITS <br /> <br />A. Test pits for the purpose of locating underground pipeline or structures in <br />advance of the construction shall be excavated and backfilled with no additional <br />cost to OWNER and at the direction of the ENGINEER. <br /> <br />1. Test pits shall be backfilled immediately after their purpose has been <br />satisfied and the surface restored and maintained in a manner satisfactory to <br />the ENGINEER. <br /> <br /> <br />PART 2 PRODUCTS (NOT USED) <br /> <br /> <br />PART 3 EXECUTION <br /> <br />3.01 COOPERATION WITHIN THIS CONTRACT <br /> <br />A. Firms or persons authorized to perform any work under this Contract shall <br />cooperate with the General CONTRACTOR and his subcontractors or trades, <br />and shall assist in incorporating the work of other trades where necessary or <br />required. <br /> <br />B. Cutting and patching, drilling and fitting shall be carried out where required by <br />the trade or subcontractor having jurisdiction, unless otherwise indicated herein <br />or directed by the ENGINEER. <br /> <br />3.02 PROTECTION OF CONSTRUCTION AND EQUIPMENT <br /> <br />A. Protect newly constructed work from damage. <br /> <br />1.
