c. Materials including, but not limited to, materials containing roots, loam, <br />wood, or other organic matter, trash, debris, muck, sod, peat, or other <br />objectionable materials which may be compressible or cannot be <br />properly compacted. <br /> <br />d. Man-made fills, refuse, or backfills from previous construction. <br /> <br />B. UNYIELDING MATERIALS <br /> <br />1. Shall consist of rock and gravely soils with stones greater than 3 inches in <br />any dimension or as defined by the pipe manufacturer, whichever is smaller. <br /> <br />D. SATISFACTORY MATERIALS <br /> <br />1. Refer to the details shown in the Drawings for specific requirements. <br /> <br />E. ROCK BEDDING, HAUNCHING, AND INITIAL BACKFILL MATERIAL <br /> <br />1. Rock bedding shall meet the Florida Department of Transportation Standard <br />Specification for No. 57 stone. <br /> <br />2. Pipe haunching shall contain good clean structural type fill. <br /> <br />3. Initial backfill material shall be common fill as described above. <br /> <br />F. BACKFILL MATERIALS <br /> <br />1. Shall consist of satisfactory material consisting of natural, predominantly well <br />graded materials with no more than 12 percent by weight passing the No. <br />200 sieve and at a moisture content that will facilitate compaction, free from <br />stones of such size as recommended by the pipe manufacturer, or larger <br />than 1 inch in any dimension, whichever is smaller. <br /> <br />2. The backfill material shall be free of stones larger than 1 inch in any <br />dimension, or as recommended by the pipe manufacturer, whichever is <br />smaller, when pipe is coated or wrapped for protection against corrosion. <br /> <br />3. Shall be clean earth fill, composed of sand, sand and rock, or crushed rock. <br /> <br />4. Where concrete or other encasement of pipe or other utilities is indicated, <br />the backfill shall begin after the encasement has been inspected and <br />approved and has attained 3/4 of its designed strength. <br /> <br />5. Material for the first layers of backfill shall be lowered to within 2 feet above <br />the top of pipes before it is allowed to fall on the pipes, unless the material is <br />placed with approved chutes or other devices that protect the pipes from the <br />impact of stones conveyed from greater height. <br /> <br />City of Sunny Isles Beach <br />NE 174th Street Roadway Improvements <br />02300 - 3 Earthwork <br />14-1758 / 09-19-2014 <br />
