3) Shall be operated in such a manner as to prevent damage to other <br />property. <br /> <br />b. Gravity underdrain systems <br /> <br />1) Shall have adequate capacity to lower the water level in the trench <br />such that the main utility may be laid “in the dry.” <br /> <br />c. Sumps <br /> <br />1) Shall be provided at various points along the route of the underdrain <br />system for the use of pumps to remove the water. <br /> <br />2) If the material encountered at trench grade is suitable for passage of <br />water without destroying the sides or bottom of the trench sumps may <br />be provided at intervals at the at the side of the main trench <br />excavation and pumps may be used to lower the water level by taking <br />their suction from these sumps. <br /> <br />3) Care shall be exercised to prevent the movement of utility foundation <br />material and a bed of crushed stone may be required. <br /> <br />B. Grading shall be done, as may be necessary to prevent surface water from <br />flowing into the excavation, and water accumulating therein shall be removed so <br />that the stability of the bottom and sides of the excavation is maintained. <br /> <br />C. The excavation shall be dewatered by appropriate methods where and when <br />necessary to maintain a dry and stable excavation bottom, and keep free from <br />water during construction. <br /> <br />D. Obtain required dewatering permits from applicable agency having jurisdiction. <br /> <br />1. Costs of complying with such permit requirements shall be borne solely by <br />the CONTRACTOR. <br /> <br />E. Water from trench dewatering operations shall be disposed of without causing <br />damage or inconvenience to the work, the surrounding area or general public. <br /> <br />3.10 OBSTRUCTIONS <br /> <br />A. The exact location of pipes, conduits, wires, mains, footings and other <br />underground structures and obstructions encountered in trenching or excavating <br />shall be determined. <br /> <br />B.
