C. Damage thereto shall be promptly and properly repaired, and displacements <br />shall be corrected. <br /> <br />D. Survey monuments or bench marks which are to be disturbed by this work shall <br />be carefully witnessed before removal and replaced upon completion of the <br />work by a Registered Land Surveyor. <br /> <br />3.11 BEDDING, BACKFILL, AND COMPACTION <br /> <br />A. Bedding shall be of the type and thickness shown. <br /> <br />B. Maximum bedding stone size shall not exceed 3/4-inch, or the maximum size <br />recommended by the pipe manufacturer, whichever is smaller. <br /> <br />C. Backfill material shall be placed in layers of a maximum of 6 inches loose <br />thickness and compacted with approved tampers to 95 percent maximum <br />density, per AASHTO T -99, in green space and 100 percent maximum density <br />beneath roadways. <br /> <br />D. Compaction by water flooding or jetting will not be permitted. <br /> <br />E. Density tests for determination of the above specified compaction shall be made <br />by a testing laboratory designated by the ENGINEER and at the expense of the <br />CONTRACTOR. <br /> <br />F. Test locations will be determined by the ENGINEER, but shall be spaced not <br />more than 300 feet apart where the trench cut is continuous in pavements or <br />areas to be paved. <br /> <br />G. Tests shall also be made where a trench crosses a paved roadway or future <br />paved roadway. <br /> <br />H. If test results are unsatisfactory, re-excavate and re-compact the backfill at his <br />expense until the desired compaction is obtained. <br /> <br />I. For continuous trenches, additional compaction tests shall be made on each <br />side of an unsatisfactory test to determine the extent of re-excavation and re- <br />compaction necessary. <br /> <br />J. Spacing of the additional tests will be determined by the ENGINEER. <br /> <br />K. Backfilling operations for excavations for utilities within buildings that have soil- <br />bearing floor slabs shall be conducted in a manner resulting in densities <br />comparable to the densities of the soil adjacent to the excavation. <br /> <br />L.
