4. If during the progress of the work the ENGINEER decides that additional <br />wood sheeting should be left in place, he may direct the CONTRACTOR in <br />writing. <br />5. If steel sheeting is used for trench sheeting, removal shall be as specified <br />above, unless written approval is given by the ENGINEER for an alternate <br />method of removal. <br /> <br />6. Sheeting and bracing, not left in place, shall be carefully removed not to <br />endanger the construction or other structures, utilities, existing piping. <br /> <br />7. Voids left or caused by withdrawal of sheeting shall immediately be refilled <br />with sand or ramming with tools especially adapted to that purpose, by <br />watering or otherwise as may be directed. <br /> <br />8. The right of the ENGINEER to order sheeting and bracing left in place shall <br />not be construed as creating obligation on the ENGINEER to issue an order, <br />and the ENGINEERs failure to exercise the ENGINEERs right to do so shall <br />not relieve the CONTRACTOR from liability for damages to persons or <br />property occurring from or upon the work occasioned by negligence or <br />otherwise, growing out of a failure on the part of the CONTRACTOR to leave <br />in place sufficient sheeting and bracing to prevent caving or moving of the <br />ground. <br /> <br />1.04 JOB CONDITIONS <br /> <br />A. Examine the site and review the available test borings or undertake his own soil <br />borings prior to submitting his bid, taking into consideration conditions that may <br />affect Construction work. <br /> <br />B. The OWNER and ENGINEER will not assume responsibility for variations of <br />sub-soil quality or conditions at locations other than places shown and at the <br />time the investigation was made. <br /> <br />C. Existing Utilities: Locate existing underground utilities in the areas of work. If <br />utilities are to remain in place, provide adequate means of protection during <br />earthwork operations. <br /> <br />1. Should uncharted, or incorrectly charted, piping or other utilities be <br />encountered during excavation, consult the ENGINEER and the OWNER of <br />this piping or utility immediately for directions. <br /> <br />2. Cooperate with OWNER and utility companies in keeping respective <br />services and facilities in operation. <br /> <br />3.
