C. Take necessary precautions to maintain the work area in a safe and workable <br />condition. <br /> <br />D. Protect work by flagging, marking, lighting and barricading. <br /> <br />E. Preserve and protect above and underground structures, pipe lines, conduits, <br />cables, drains, or utilities which are existing at the time the CONTRACTOR <br />encounters them. <br /> <br />F. Failure of the Drawings to show the existence of these obstructions shall not <br />relieve the CONTRACTOR from this responsibility. <br /> <br />G. The cost of repair of damage which occurs to these obstructions during or as a <br />result of construction shall be borne by the CONTRACTOR without additional <br />cost to the OWNER. <br /> <br />3.02 TRENCH EXCAVATION <br /> <br />A. Excavation for trenches required for the installation of pipes shall be made to <br />the depths indicated in the Drawings. <br /> <br />B. Excavate trench to provide minimum of 30-inch clear cover over the pipe bell <br />unless otherwise noted in the Drawings. <br /> <br />C. Excavate in a manner and to a widths as will give suitable room for laying the <br />pipe within the trenches, for bracing and supporting, and for pumping and <br />drainage facilities. <br /> <br />D. The trench width at the top of the pipe shall not exceed the allowable as <br />determined by the depth of cut and indicated in the Drawings. <br /> <br />E. Rock shall be removed to a minimum 8-inches clearance around the bottom <br />and sides of the pipe or ducts being laid. <br /> <br />F. Where pipe is to be laid in limerock bedding or encased in concrete, the trench <br />may be excavated by machinery to or just below the designated subgrade <br />provided that the material remaining in the bottom of the trench remains <br />undisturbed. <br /> <br />G. Where the pipes or ducts are to be laid directly on the trench bottom the lower <br />part of the trenches shall not be excavated to the trench bottom by machinery. <br /> <br />H. The last of the material being excavated shall be done manually in a manner <br />that will give a flat bottom true to grade so that pipe can evenly and uniformly <br />supported along its entire length on undisturbed material or bedding rock. <br /> <br /> <br />City of Sunny Isles Beach <br />NE 174th Street Roadway Improvements <br />02319 - 5 Trenching <br />14-1758 / 09-19-2014 <br />
